Washington State Parenting Plan

It is very important to strongly assert your wishes regarding the parenting plan early in the divorce process, as the temporary parenting plan often becomes the final plan. The court believes it is in the best interests of the child to continue the child's routine and custody situation. While a parenting evaluator or guardian ad litem will make recommendations about whether to make the temporary plan permanent, it is important to have a dedicated divorce lawyer by your side to make sure your rights are preserved, especially if the custody issues become contentious or there are special circumstances that the court must be made aware of, such as allegations of substance abuse, domestic violence, or alcoholism.

Washington State Child Support

Child support in Washington is relatively straightforward. The state guidelines clearly delineate what each parent is required to pay. However, in many instances, our attorneys will challenge the guidelines in order to assure that the children are able to have all of the amenities they are accustomed to and would have had if the parents had stayed together. There are also instances of lowering child support if one of the parents qualifies for a residential credit or there are children from a previous relationship.

Modifications of Existing Parenting Plans and Child Support
